BIAGIO (Tuscany)

BIAGIO is a Super Tuscan blend that combines the native Sangiovese with French grape varietals, such as Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. These blends utilize the various grapes complimentary qualities to create a superior wine.

This 90% Sangiovese / 10% Cabernet Sauvignon wine is made of grapes from select Tuscan vineyards, and is labeled Toscana IGT. Medium-bodied and supple, it projects deep dry cherry-berry fruit handsomely framed by balanced oak.

Biagio is produced by Castellani, the prominent Tuscan wine producing family. Their history in the region around Florence dates back to the early Renaissance. Castellani is now the largest single producer of D.O.C.Chianti wines, accounting for over 11% of total production, and celebrated their 100th anniversary as a modern wine company in 2003. They currently export wine to 47 countries worldwide.

Biagio in name honors Biagio Restivo, patriarch of the Restivo family—owners of Biagio Cru & Estate Wines, Castellani’s US importers. As a major producer, Castellani is committed to asserting brand presence in the US market. The Biagio Cru-Castellani partnership is dedicated to establishing Castellani as the next great Italian wine name in the United States.

Flavorful and approachable, Biagio will provide excellent drinking through 2006. The wine offers outstanding quality at its price point, with aroma, flavor, and texture usually found only in more expensive wines.

BIAGIO 2000 Toscana IGT
(90% Sangiovese, 10% Cabernet Sauvignon);
A richly textured red whose dark, ripe fruit is offset by balanced, tasty oak. Nice even tannins on the long finish make it a great dinner choice for a wide range of meat and pasta dishes. Still, it’s even enough to enjoy on its own or with hors d’oeuvres. The 1999 shows even better depth of flavor and smoother feel than the
fine1997.
