BIAGIO GOLD, Tuscany
BIAGIO GOLD is a more refined statement of our Biagio Super Tuscan blend, pairing the native Sangiovese grape with the French Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. The winemaker to employs the different grapes’ complimentary qualities, creating a wine of superior aroma, flavor, and texture.
Biagio Gold Toscana IGT is a blend of 85% Sangiovese, 10% Cabernet Sauvignon, and 5% Merlot grapes from select vineyards on the Castellani’s own estates and from strictly supervised contract growers. After stringent selection, the Sangiovese and Cabernet grapes are carefully vinified and aged in oak. A further selection is made and the Merlot (vinified separately) added to only the best lots of total production, those destined to become Biagio Gold. The wine then receives further aging.
Biagio Gold is produced by Castellani, a top Tuscan producer with a family history that dates to the early Renaissance in the region around Florence. In 2003, Castellani—now the largest single producer of D.O.C. Chianti wines—celebrated their 100th anniversary as a modern wine company, and currently exports to 47 countries.
The wine honors Biagio Restivo, (late) patriarch of the Restivo family, owners
of Biagio Cru Imports, Castellani’s US importer. The partnership is committed to asserting the Castellani brand as a significant US market presence, and establishing the brand as the next great Italian wine name in the United States.

Very supple—a fine marriage of dry cherry Sangiovese aromas and flavors with darker berry Cabernet fruit that provides a bit more weight. The Merlot element adds soft and round notes to the texture, providing lovely plum and cocoa touches as well. Closes with a long, even finish. Notable value. Drink now through 2005+.
