FATTORIA DI CAMPOMAGGIO sits in the heart of Chianti Classico’s ‘golden triangle’ just outside the village of Radda. The Castellani family is currently supervising intensive redevelopment and renovation at this historic, very favorably-situated property. Major vineyard and winery investments have been made over the last decade, resulting in wines that have achieved a new level of quality.
Campomaggio comprises 4 vineyards and a winery. It also has a small attached hill town (burgo) that until recently had been abandoned, and is now being resurrected as a Tuscan art center. The property is planted predominantly to the native Sangiovese grape, with some Cabernet Sauvignon in the La Selvolina and Syrah in Al Fiume vineyard. Significant new plantings, better vine training and management, crop thinning and selective harvesting are yielding the desired results. This extremely favorable site has the potential to produce wines on a par with the best of Chianti Classico.
Campomaggio, an exquisite example of the recent Tuscan renaissance, showcases as well the Castellani family’s long-term commitment to elevating quality through investment coupled with intensive vineyard and winery work. The estate produces three wines: a Chianti Classico; a Chianti Classico Riserva, and a Rosso. The Riserva and the Rosso come in unique custom bottlings, superb for the restaurant or elegant home table—or as gifts.
The renaissance at Campomaggio is still in its early stages, and the family is confident the estate is capable of producing some of the finest wine in the Chianti Classico district.
