CHIANTI RISERVA
(Tuscany, Italy)
CASTELLANI CHIANTI RISERVA adds to the tremendous appeal of this familys great Tuscan wine portfolio. Most wine lovers are very familiar with Chianti Classico Riservas. Not as many realize it is possible to make an excellent riserva Chianti from select grapes grown outside the Classico designated area.
From the Castellanis extensive vineyard holdings and contract vineyards, their Chianti Riserva is made in the traditional riserva manner. A stricter selection of grapes and juice, coupled with longer oak aging, yields a wine of greater texture, more complex aromas and flavors. This riserva, if not from the classico district, is definitely a classic. The wine was recognized with Bronze Medal at the 2001 International Olympiades du Vin in Bordeaux.
Castellani is a leading Tuscan wine-producing family with history dating to the early Renaissance in the region around Florence. Now the largest single producer of Chianti wines, Castellani accounts for 11% of total production. In 2003, the firm celebrated 100 years as a modern wine company, and currently exports millions of cases to 47 countries worldwide.
Castellanis US importer is Biagio Cru & Estate Wines. The partnership is committed to asserting the Castellani brand as a significant US market presence, and establishing the brand as the next great Italian wine name in the United States.
A supple feel, and a dark cherry and blackberry core accented by chocolate and coffee notes mark the Castellani Chianti Riservas superior fruit and the winemaking skill that went into its production. Delivering impressive quality and a rich spectrum of aromas, flavors, and texture usually only associated with more expensive wines, it should drink well through 2006.
