HAND PICKED, ESTATE PRODUCED AND BOTTLED WINES

2002 Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Carmenère, Chardonnay
The exciting NOSTALGIA line consists of four estate-bottled reserve wines produced under the direction of veteran enologist Cesar Baeza. The wines come exclusively from the Achurra family’s Nostalgia Vineyard in Chile’s Curicó Valley. Made of fruit from ungrafted vines of an average15 years age, these delicious reserve wines show superb varietal character— dry, full-bodied, displaying excellent fruit and careful winemaking. The good news is capped off by
the Nostalgia wines’ stunning original artwork and gold accented package, a look far above Nostalgia’s very reasonable price!

The Achurra family’s Nostalgia Vineyard is located in the village of Sagrada Familia, a village in the Curicó Valley, 200km south of Santiago. The site, at about 100 meters, is in low hills whose gently sloped terrain is perfect for viticulture. Cool breezes, reflecting nearby the maritime influence, keep the daily temperature cycle wide, facilitating superb ripening.

Nostalgia wines represent the three most popular international grapes: Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and Chardonnay, plus Carmenère, a heritage grape that is Chile’s unique gift, via Bordeaux. These bottlings represent the top selection of available fruit and are classified as reserve.

VARIETAL NOTES

2002 Cabernet Sauvignon: The 2002 vintage Cabernet Sauvignon fruit achieved
great ripeness after a season of excellent growing conditions. The wine shows excellent blackberry and blackcurrant aromas and flavors with some lighter berry shadings.
Vibrant herb, tobacco, and coffee accents add complexity. Good tannins and solid acidity supply surprising structure for a moderately priced wine. Will improve over the next
year or two. Drink now through 2008.
12.7% Alc. Total Acidity 4.8G/L

2002 Merlot: The superb growing season yielded a harvest of fine quality Merlot fruit in 2002. Hand harvesting and a careful selection yielded only perfect bunches for our Reserve bottling. Ripe plum and medium berry aromas and flavors are enhanced and enlivened by lovely rose and cocoa accents. A supple feel masks the substance here. The wine has the elements to improve in the bottle for at least a year. Drink now through 2007.
12.9% Alc. Total Acidity 4.5G/L

2002 Carmenère: Long mistaken as Merlot, improperly cultivated and harvested too early, Carmenère is gaining worldwide acceptance as Chile’s trademark red. An historic Bordeaux grape—no longer cultivated there—it thrives in Chile’s hospitable climate. It’s between Merlot and Cabernet in weight and style with some elements similar to both—raspberry and coffee flavors and aromas, plus a higher-toned, herb-tinged nose similar to Cabernet Franc. The 2002 is a textbook example, showing fully the generous vintage and harvest conditions. Delicious now and will improve in the bottle. Drink through 2008.
13.3% Alc. Total Acidity 4.5G/L

2002 Chardonnay: An impressive southern hemisphere rendering of the world’s favorite white wine. Here, full apple-pear aromas and flavors are highlighted by citrus, peach and straw notes. Toasty oak frames the whole package, creating a substantial white wine. This impressive large-scaled Chardonnay has the stuff to stand up to roast chicken, ham, or veal chops. Drink now through 2006, chilled but not cold.
12.9% Alc. Total Acidity 4.95G/L
