POGGIO AL CASONE is a Chianti Superiore D.O.C.G. Castellani estate located in the commune of Crespina in Tuscany’s Colline Pisane. The property is currently undergoing intensive redevelopment as part of a $10 million investment program Castellani has made in its Tuscan estates. The impressive vineyard and winery renovations are part of a program that are elevating the quality of the Poggio al Casone estate wines to new heights of excellence.
The estate is comprised of 3 vineyards: Vigna Gobba, Vigna degli Apostoli, and L’Angolo d’Oro. The vineyards are planted to the native Sangiovese, Canaiolo, and Ciliegiolo grapes. The established international varietals Cabernet Sauvignon and Syrah are also cultivated. Additionally, with the University of Pisa, the Castellanis have established an experimental vineyard dedicated to propagating and studying ancient native clones (autochthon)—such as the rare Mazzese Giacomino, of which 400 vines are found on the estate.
Presently Poggio al Casone produces a Chianti Superiore. As recently planted vineyards mature, production will include both a Syrah and a Super-Tuscan blend. The Poggio al Casone estate also includes a brand new winery and visitor center. In this facility, more than anywhere else, the Castellani family will present its public face.

(90% Sangiovese, 5% Canaiolo, 5% Ciliegolo)
Smooth, with dry, even Sangiovese fruit accented beautifully by the other native grapes. A supple, elegant red wine at this price point with classic, lightly tart cherry flavors, mineral/herb hints and a lingering finish.
